New York Trading Firm Registered on London Exchange

As reported by JENNY STRASBURG, Virtu Financial LLC became a registered market-maker on the London Stock Exchange in August, marking the latest step in the New York-based high-speed trading firm’s push to find profits overseas.

As one of about five dozen firms registered as a market-maker on the London exchange’s primary order book, Virtu stands in to face buyers and sellers of stocks at quoted prices. By facilitating trading, market-makers play a key role in maintaining smooth markets.

The designation underlines Virtu’s rapid development from proprietary-trading startup just four years ago to one of the biggest electronic-trading firms, and reflects the increased clout high-speed traders have in the world’s busiest stock markets.
