CFTC proposes derivative products for clearing under new rules

Dow Jones Newswires reports The Commodity Futures Trading Commission yesterday proposed derivative products that could be the first ones subject to the agency’s new regulatory system for derivatives.

The CFTC proposed that certain credit default swaps and interest-rate swaps should be the first products to be routed through clearinghouses.

CFTC Commissioner Gary Gensler said in a statement that the commission is choosing to mandate the clearing of products that are already being accepted by clearinghouses.
