NYSE Program Trading Jumped Last Week as Volume Rose

Program-trading activity increased on the New York Stock Exchange last week as the overall volume rose from a week earlier, according to the latest data from the NYSE Euronext (NYX) unit.

For the week ended June 1, average daily program-trading volume totaled 745.9 million shares, making up roughly 38.2% of the average daily trading volume. A week earlier, program trading totaled 475.5 million shares, making up about 29.8% of the average daily trading volume.

For the latest week, average daily total volume was 1.95 billion shares, up from the prior week’s 1.59 billion shares.
