As reported by GFS News’ Nicola York, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission has urged the EU to follow the US by putting circuit breakers in place in securities markets to curb the risk of flash crashes.
CFTC commissioner Bart Chilton, who will speak at Golden Networking‘s High-Frequency Trading Leaders Forum 2011, said that although circuit breakers are in place in some markets, they need to be expanded and harmonised across all markets to prevent arbitrage.
He said: “Should these types of circuit breakers be harmonised in other nations? Maybe. Think about it. There are stocks and futures which are arbitraged internationally.
