EU Commission Love-Hate Relationship with High-Frequency Trading

High-Frequency Trading Experts Workshop 2010

High-frequency trading of stocks requires more regulation given the risks it poses, Michel Barnier, the commissioner for internal markets and services at the European Commission, said on Tuesday, adding he will work with U.S. regulators to craft new rules.

How specific are those risks to High-Frequency Trading will be discussed at High-Frequency Trading Experts Workshop 2010 (http://www.HFTExpertsWorkshop.com), in Hong Kong, November 22 & 23 and New York, December 9 & 10.

As reported by Reuters, “Barnier, the French commissioner in charge of the EU’s regulatory overhaul across markets, also said he is ‘deeply convinced that excessive speculation” in the markets for crops ‘is both abnormal and unacceptable.’ The Commission is set to propose changes to the European bloc’s 2007 securities trading rules, known as the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID)”.

High-Frequency Trading Experts Workshop 2010 is produced by GoldenNetworking.net (http://www.goldennetworking.net), the premier networking community for business executives, entrepreneurs, investors and diplomats, founded by former McKinsey consultant and Columbia Business School MBA Edgar Perez.
