High-frequency trading, reports Forbes, is back in the news with legislators and trading venues wanting to know more about these infamous traders that now make up about 70% of the trading volume. Senator Ted Kaufman (D-Del.) pointed out in a recent letter to the Securities and Exchange Commission that he would like high-frequency traders to take on more obligations. “Some market participants argue that high frequency traders have certain advantages and, therefore, should be subjected to trading obligations and other regulations,” Kaufman said in the letter to SEC Chairman Mary Schapiro.
